A trilingual book to browse, to give and to read aloud, to laugh at the same things with different words.
Synopsis
111 Silly World’s Proverbs for Adults. Illustrated is a trilingual, 245-page A5 collection of 111 popular proverbs and expressions from more than twenty languages and dialects: Italian, German, Russian, Chinese, Filipino, Yiddish, Neapolitan, Occitan, the Creoles of Louisiana, Mauritius and Martinique, Tok Pisin from Papua New Guinea, Australian English, and many more.
The book is divided into two parts: 57 “mild” proverbs, mischievous but suitable for any adult, and 54 “raw” ones, bawdy or scatological, with no filter. In each part the order is random, like a stroll around the world. Some proverbs exist in two versions, mild and raw, which answer each other from one part to the other.
Each proverb takes a double page. On the left: the saying in its original language, its literal translation, its equivalents in French, English and Spanish, an explanation in all three languages, and a box giving its status and historical background. On the right: a large humorous illustration made with artificial intelligence. The choice of proverbs and the instructions used to create the images are the author’s, Boris Barail.
“To Human Intelligence for its proverbs, to AI for its illustrations.”
